Inside Out Project

Calling All Student Writers/Artists of Bonnie Brae!

IT’S BACK-the Inside Out Project at Bonnie Brae Elementary! Two years ago, students, staff and community members alike of the Bonnie Brae Elementary community participated in the international art project, “Inside Out.” See below for a picture from this wonderful day!

This year, we are focusing on this theme throughout our project: Every person is a new door to a different world.
If you want to show your amazing smile on the outside front sidewalk of Bonnie Brae for all of the community to see and enjoy, then read further!

In your own words or pictures, share about what it means to be a part of this wonderful community, both inside the walls of Bonnie Brae and outside.  Why do you love Bonnie Brae Elementary?  Why are you proud of your school and community?  If you submit your letter/picture and the attached model release form by the due date listed below, you can have your photo taken by Ms. Bower, then blown up to a very large size (36 in. x 53 in.) and then glued to the front sidewalk of Bonnie Brae for all to see, in a community gluing event scheduled for Saturday, June 2, 2018, 10:00 am-1:00 pm!  Please submit your entry to your classroom teacher by April 17, 2018.
*Please read the sheet on the back explaining all about the photo project INSIDE OUT Project, the inspiration behind the student photos posted.

INSIDE OUT Project
“Can art change the world?  Maybe we should change the question: can art change people’s lives?” JR

On March 2, 2011, French artist, JR won the TED prize at the TED Conference in Long Beach, California, and called for the creation of a global participatory art project with the potential to change the world. This project is called INSIDE OUT.

Inspired by JR’s large‐format street "pastings", INSIDE OUT gives everyone the opportunity to share their portrait and make a statement for what they stand for. It is a global platform for people to share their stories and transform messages of personal identity and beliefs into works of public art. Each INSIDE OUT group action around the world is documented, archived and exhibited online. Nearly 200,000 people from more than 112 countries & territories have participated.

From this international, creative idea came the idea of the photographs of Bonnie Brae students, staff and community members. Through this very powerful message, students feel proud of their school, their community and most importantly, proud of themselves.  At Bonnie Brae, we all believe educating our students is more than just academics. It’s about instilling pride, satisfaction, a sense of community and belonging.

“I wish for you to stand up for what you care about by participating in a global art project, and together we will change the world…INSIDE OUT.” -JR
