School Events With the Community
Bonnie Brae plans several enriching activities for the community throughout the year including: Math and Literacy Night, This is Us Cultural Celebration, Staff Basketball Game, and Veterans Day Breakfast and celebration.
Strong PTO and School Partnership
An active PTO partners with the school to plan community activities throughout the year, celebrates and supports the teachers and staff, and organizes after-school activities for students.
Purple Star School
Bonnie Brae was recognized by the Virginia Department of Education and the Virginia Council on the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children as a Purple Star School. The Purple Star designation is awarded to military-friendly schools that have demonstrated their commitment to meeting the needs of military-connected students and their families.
Global Classroom Project
The school has been involved in Fairfax County’s Global Classroom Project, where students participate in a virtual exchange with classrooms around the world, working toward taking collective action on global issues.
Lights, Camera, Action!
In addition to art, music, and physical education, grades K-3 students also enjoy theater classes.
Positivity Project Green Shield School
Bonnie Brae Elementary has been named a Green Shield School by The Positivity Project for exemplifying character and relationship-driven systems among staff, students, and families – to cultivate lifelong learning and a positive school culture.
Meeting the Needs of Our Learners
Bonnie Brae Elementary offers both full- and part-time services in Advanced Academic Programs to provide challenging experiences for all students.
Our Youngest Scotties
Bonnie Brae helps students get a strong start. We offer pre-K, Head Start programs, and preschool autism classes.
Staff Recognition
Michele Shirey, a Bonnie Brae fifth grade teacher, has achieved National Board Certification, which is the most respected professional certification available to teachers.
Undergoing Renovation
Bonnie Brae is currently undergoing a renovation that will add 40,000 square feet of learning space to the school. The renovation will result in a larger cafeteria, a new office, a secure entry vestibule, and additional classrooms. It is expected to be completed in the summer of 2026.
