This Is Us! - A Celebration of Our Community of Families!

What is "This Is Us!"?

You are invited to join us for our, "This Is Us! - A Celebration of Our Community of Families" at Bonnie Brae on Thursday, April 10, 5:30-7 PM.  We will learn about the families that make up our Bonnie Brae community as we experience performances, demonstrations, food, and a share fair.

We are looking for families to share about their family, their culture, and/or family traditions with our Bonnie Brae community.  Families can share about:

  • your family.
  • the culture of your home country.
  • the culture of the country or countries of your ancestral heritage.
  • the culture of a city, state, or country where you have lived or visited.
  • your family's traditions and celebrations.
  • any culture to which you feel connected.

Would you like to share about your family, culture and/or family tradition? We have four options:

Cultural Share Fair

Create a display (arts and crafts, photos/pictures, games, historical information, books, posters, money, etc...) about your family, culture, and/or family tradition. This will take place in our gym.
*No sharp objects or weapons are allowed. Please do not bring irreplaceable or valuable items. Items may be handled by visiting families. Bonnie Brae Elementary and Fairfax County Public Schools will not be liable for loss or damage to any items.

Performance or Demonstration

Sing a song, play an instrument, perform a dance, or showcase a special skill or art form from your culture or family tradition. Maximum length of performance/demonstration is three (3) minutes. This will take place on the stage in our cafeteria or in our gym.

Food or Drink

Share a sweet or savory food or drink sample that represents your family, culture, and/or family tradition. Bring small portions that can easily be eaten with your fingers. Families should bring cups, plates, utensils, and/or napkins if needed. This will take place in our cafeteria.
*A detailed list of ingredients must be displayed for visiting families to view. All food and drink must be cooked ahead of time, and not on site.

Parade of Families

Children can show off their cultural heritage and family traditions by dressing in traditional clothes from their country, culture or family tradition while participating in our Parade of Families. This will take place on the stage in our cafeteria.

Would you like to share about your family's culture or family's tradition at our "This Is Us!" event?
