Cafeteria & Lunch Information

My School Bucks

Lunch Policy

Knowing that we are trying to promote a healthier lifestyle to include food choices, outside food from restaurants/deli's is not permitted. If items are forgotten, the cafeteria may have a healthy option for your child to choose from.

Lunch Information

Lunch Al La Carte

  • These are available to supplement student lunches. Students must have a school lunch or home lunch to purchase an a la carte item.

  • Only one breakfast and one lunch per student per day qualify at the subsidized price. The cost of any additional lunch is at the adult price or a la carte price, whichever is less.

Lunch Money

You can pay for your student's lunch online at My School Bucks. The service is easy-to-use, private, and secure. There is a convenience fee. Once an account is established, parents can check the fund account anytime from their computer.

Students also can open a meal account (computerized debit card system) by bringing cash or a check made out to Bonnie Brae Cafeteria to the cafeteria manager. This system allows parents to purchase meals in advance on a weekly, monthly, or quarterly basis. This also allows parents to provide an emergency fund should your child forget his/her lunch or lunch money. Students can make prepayments on meals Monday-Friday mornings. Before the start of school, you or your child can go to the cafeteria with the prepayment. The money will be processed and students will have access to their accounts by lunch time. You may also make payments online at My School Bucks. This service does take 24 hours for the funds to be available.

  •  A stamp will appear on your child’s hand if funds fall below three meals. Reminder slips are given when your child has no money left. We ask that you prevent this from happening by replenishing your child’s account.
  • Please make your check payable to Bonnie Brae Cafeteria. Cash is also acceptable. Your check or envelope must include your child’s full name, grade level, and teacher’s name. One check can be used for all children in the same family. Please state child’s last name if different than yours.
  • With My School Bucks and the debit card system, students are issued a personalized pin number that is kept by the food services manager under their teacher’s name.
  • Parents can request that the money be used for meals only, with no a la carte snacks allowed. This information needs to be communicated to the cafeteria manager each time you send in money. When no preference is given, money is put into a cash account and can be used for all food items.

Cafeteria Rules

Students are given a 30 minute lunch period and are expected to eat lunch unless excused in writing by a parent. During religious observations, students fasting will be provided an alternative location to spend their lunch period.

Students should not bring canned or bottled drinks or soda to the cafeteria for lunch.

Lunch Guests

Parents, grandparents, and siblings are always invited to come and eat with a student. It is a special occasion for the entire class. Visitors typically either purchase lunch from the cafeteria or bring a bag lunch from home. It is nice for the students to see that grownups also eat nutritious lunches. We ask that you do not bring in soft drinks or “fast-food” lunches. The sale of soft drinks to students is prohibited in all Fairfax County Public Schools, from elementary through high school, during the school day.Encourage your child to make healthy lunch choices by visiting the federal government's Choose My Plate and an FCPS online resource for Food and Nutrition information.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call our cafeteria manager, Anita Sharma, at 703-321-3921.
